EVERYBODY DE MENT 2

Read the PART 1 here, if you're reading for the first time.
If not, let's go.

It was Day Four.
Reporting from the Ment Department or Department of Mental Health.

It is actually true; The more time you spend with a group of people.
You tend to behave like them.

A Student of the Law was slowly losing his sanity.
Spending four full days with mentally unstable people was actually turning me mad.

Because the patients here are crazy, they don't spend much money to feed them.

Since I was recruited to this band of clowns, it has been Ogbono soup and beans all the way.

And the beans is extremely peppery and watery with the presence of stones and hair.
Whether it's human or animal hair.

I was opportune to see all categories of insane people and believe me, you haven't seen anything yet.

I'll start with;

The Shockers or The Shocked:
This category are normal in behaviour until a shock wave comes upon them.

They can begin to see their friends and loved ones.
Whether alive or dead.
They can begin to hear sounds and imaginary things would chase them.

When the shock goes, they return to normal and they are usually traumatized after the experience.

It's usually insane because they are put on medication.
If the drugs are not administered, they go rogue.

Then we have the Visionaries:
These ones can have conversations with thin air but to them, they are seeing people.

They are rumoured to tap into the spiritual realm and can even see football outcomes and give out sure odds.
They have visions and are violent if confronted.

The Silent ones:
This should be my favorite category; they are like monks.
They are silent and always meditating, they hardly speak and are isolated from the rest.

They are sad, gloomy and hardly move. They could stare at one spot for so long, you would believe there's an entity there.

Then we have the Real Mentals.
These ones are restrained with chains and other materials.
They are wild and unpredictable in nature.

They are incredibly dumb as hell.

They could be trying to escape for a very long period of time and when the chance comes, they would run back to their chains, instead of running towards the door.

Luck dawned upon me on the fifth day.
Since Dan ran and left me at the ward, he was in custody of my phone.

And with the continuous calls from my Mom, he was assured that I was missing.

Posters were made, fliers circulated with my picture.
In the picture, I was dressed on my white and black as an authentic law student.

I was officially declared missing and the case got to the police as soon as possible.
So Dan was interrogated and asked the last place he saw me before I got missing.

So, he brought the police accompanied with some of my coursemates to the Mental Unit.

Loud sirens were blaring all over the hospital and it caused quite a scene.

The police men questioned the receptionist and showed them my picture if she knew or had seen anyone like that.

The receptionist claimed to have never seen anyone like me in her entire life.
This lead to a short commotion and attracted the attention of other staff.

The superior; Thomas, indicated that he knew me and I was inside one of the wards.
He stated I was mad which lead to my detention.

I was brought out and at this point, the staff finally believed I wasn't mad.
I blame them for their poor and inefficient management.

Then I was being released. God did come through for me because I wouldn't have found a way out of there.

I was all scruffy and dirty, but it was amazing to be finally free.

My coursemates were hailing me with different greetings like:

The Law
The Barr
The Legal System
The Nkakan of Law

Amongst other legal hypes and whines. It was good to be out.

I called home and they were extremely glad. My Mom gave a testimony in church that very evening service in Lagos.

Everyone rejoiced and personally I was happy because if I spent more time there.
I would have gotten mad for real.

Life returned normal and I got to my normal routine of living.
But you know, life's always incomplete without an adventure.

There's this crazy friend of mine.
A senior colleague in law.

He is intellectual and the rest.
But the most fascinating thing about him was his dressing and way of life.

Augustine never lacked money and he comfortably controlled nearly every girl on the entire campus.

He drove to school and never ate food in the school cafeteria.
He always went to eateries because he had the money.

But in my case, I went to eateries like once in a month because of financial restraints.

After my release, he came to meet me and ask how life must have been for the few days I was trapped in there.

I narrated my ordeal, and he had sympathy on me.
I told him I was tired of being broke and he should help me out financially.

He laughed and then gave me this dangerous look as he said, "I do not give fish but I'll show you how to fish".

He told me we would begin next week Thursday; and I had to be ready before then.

I guess it would be Forex, Trading or something concerning trading of coins.

Thursday morning, he told me to come to his lodge.
That he wanted to discuss with me.
I insisted if he wanted speaking with me, it should be a phone call.

But he stated it was quite important and vital so I headed to his residence immediately.

I got there and he told me to sit down.
He was a very jovial person and would joke at the slightest opportunity but he was serious this time around.

He wasn't smiling.
Then he brought out a gun from one of his drawers and asked me if I could handle or operate one.

I assumed it was a joke so l started to laugh and told him I was a soldier in Call of Duty.

And there was no way I would not be able to operate such machinery.
I told him I was the best man to operate such.

He didn't laugh at my well-prepared joke.
He then asked again and at this point, I knew Augustine was God-damn serious.

He began to explain that they specialized in robbery but it was a different ball game.

They had fake guns and real guns.
Depending on the operation at hand.
He mentioned the politician he worked for and the risks that I would need to take.

As a Christian and a Law student, both of my beliefs were strongly against robbery.
I told him that his secret was safe with me but there's no way I would join him in commiting such atrocities.

He laughed loudly and said, "I know say you go wan talk like that".
He continued, "Omo, the pay sweet, we de see at least 200k for one operation".

Ehh !!
Did I just hear Two Hundred Thousand for one single operation?

I changed my mind instantly.
As long as I'm not killing and they are not.
It's fine.

All hustle na hustle.

So he laid out the plans and told me what was going to happen.
The rest of his squad came and I had a proper introduction.
I just joined a gang quite easily without problem or discrimination.

I was literally chilling with the big boys.

We were gonna hit one influential man and from the information gotten.
He had no security.
No guards or police.
Just a gateman to guard an entire estate.

It was gonna be easy so we decided not to carry ammunition.
And Augustine told the team I would be coming along since it's more of a baby operation.

As we all know, operations like this are very efficient at night.
With the information, we had a blueprint of the layout of his house and where his money was stacked.

There was a political meeting he just got involved in and loads of funds was released to him in cash.

The politician that recruited us gave us every single detail and ensured that if the operation was successful; the money would be split.

60:40.
We would take 60% and our hirer would take 40%.
And we were talking about thousands of Naira here.
I prayed before venturing on this quest and I let God know that my heart is still pure.

And I was just trying to find a way to be financially stable.
I added in the prayer that if I succed this time around.
I won't join them again.

It's gonna be the first and the last time.

Augustine assured me not to be scared.
That they have never been caught or have they had any complications.

So the time was neigh.
And we reached the outskirts of his location.
From our source, he was already asleep by 9pm.

So this was going to be a walk-over.
I began to fantasize what I would buy and the luxury I would live in.

No more bus for travelling.
It was going to be flights all the way.

Jumping into the compound, everywhere was quiet and calm.
Then the skillful thieves amongst us headed to the master's bedroom where the money was kept.

While me and the remaining boys remained at the gate to alert others incase any emergency would arise.

The security was sitting down watching a movie with a loud music box.

So he couldn't hear us coming behind him.
We covered his nose with an handkerchief soaked in chloroform and it knocked him out instantly.

We were eight in number.
Four upstairs. Four downstairs.
Everything was going according to plan.

Augustine and the boys found the bags of money.
Packed them and they started coming downstairs to meet us.

But then, the politician wasn't in the bedroom.
Where the hell could he be?

My thoughts were halted when there was a bright torchlight flashed towards us.
It was the Politician !!
At this point, the shock in me was so much I nearly shat in my pants.

He screamed, "Stop right there !!".
Then pandemonium ensued.
We weren't armed so Augustine signaled us to start running.

His compound was more of an estate so it's quite far to reach the gate or the fence which we used to come in.

He then shouted to another security; "Release the mentor !!", "Release him now!!".

Now, a cage was unlocked and something swiftly came out from it and was coming towards our direction.

It was fast.
It wasn't human.
It wasn't a dog.
I can't even categorize it as a beast.

I fell to the ground knowing it is finished.
