A LITTLE FUEL EMBEZZLEMENT

In this life that we are living
Please I am begging
NEVER YOU TRY TO EMBEZZLE
OR CUT THINGS SHORT
It has to backfire, it always will.
It might not be sudden or immediately but it will come and it will catch up with you.
Let me explain what happened to me today
Am yet to recover from this particular one

In fact once I recover from this one, I am turning a new leaf at once
I have been buying fuel since 2012, that’s for straight seven years and nothing ever went wrong
Boys should understand the normal technique of making money from buying fuel especially when light is scarce in your area.
When you are given up to three thousand, then you quickly form a list thereby using like one thousand to buy fuel, then the remaining money to buy data and invest in virtual betting or normal bets.
The money that people have made from this way of life is enough to build some of them solid house and even cars if care is not taken.
I won’t lie, I have been using this pattern for a long time so there was no need to fear.
Immediately I bought the little fuel I would quickly turn it into the generator without anyone noticing what happened.
And am the one that usually switches the generator on and off so my secret was quite safe with me.

But today was another fateful day with a tremendous change that I never thought would come into existence.
There was an important AFCON match to be played in the evening and with the way that electricity has been fluctuating, it was advisable to get fuel so we would not miss the upcoming match.
So I was called and told that I was going to buy fuel.

I began to plan my profits and how I would subscribe data to download John Wick 3 and my series. I dressed up, picked up my phone and pulled my headphones, putting my best play list on the go.
I collected the money and stepped outside, ready to pick the jerry-can and begin my movement.
But I was warned, for the first time
I was warned to buy enough fuel and they complained that the fuel usually finishes very quickly.

The warning didn't even enter my head and I plugged the headphones into my ear and collected the money for the fuel.
I was to full the container so if need be, the generator can be switched on throughout the whole night.

I played music and climbed bike with immediate effect. I was meant to go to the fueling station but I always like the black market sellers for the speed of dispensing.
I was given two thousand naira plus extra one thousand so as the container would be full to the brim

The spirit of embezzlement is a very thick one
It can make you to pass your usual limit to get whatever you want
I reached the black market that I usually purchased fuel and it was closed, in order to save money
I trekked to the nearest black market to buy the fuel

The guy was all scruffy and worn out and he then asked me how much fuel I wanted to purchase
Then I began to have strange thoughts like “Why should I buy fuel, when there is fuel already in the generator?”
I just said five liters which was N750 and my profit was extravagantly large. The joy in me was much and I paid no attention to what the seller was doing.
If only I looked, I would have fixed the problem in due time but I was engrossed in my phone and didn’t seem to notice that he has jeopardized the container.

He was working on pipes for his store and was with gum, so while turning in the fuel, the container got some gum on it.
I didn’t notice it early and the gum solidified the jerry can.
I reached the generator and lo and behold, the container refused to open
The gum had a tight grip on the container and was over stiff.
It was like a joke at first and I didn’t take it serious or keep it in mind.
I tried and tried for like a dozen times and there was no glimpse of success.
I was in some serious trouble now.

I began to think of several ways to get the container open in due time. I even thought of creating a hole in the container but with the way fuel evaporates.
The fuel will be condemned in no time.
So I bent down and struggled with my last breath but it will still not worth it
I had to kneel down and go one on one with the container.
“We die here today”

A Good Samaritan sighted me in such an uncomfortable position came to help me and started struggling with me.
He did not want to look defeated by such a simple task so he kept on trying and applied more force in each trail.
Before I could say JACK
Like four adults were gathered at the scene and were making enquires on what was going on
In due time, the place got noisy with several chattering voices
My heart began to beat profusely
I told them "Do not worry" “I can fix this”

I even went as far as telling them that I am not turning the fuel now
That I would turn it later, I had to find a way to disperse the crowd.
Then I heard my uncle's voice amongst them. My heart skipped a beat.
He asked what was wrong so I lied that I bought fuel and I wanted keeping it till dusk.
I amplified the lie by saying that I had other pressing errands to do and that am in a rush.

My plan began to work and people were about going and I was feeling safe and secured until one man called my Dads attention.
That is why I always advised people to mind their business.
Did I tell you to tell my Dad? I still wonder what the man must have achieved from that particular act.

My Dad with his quick walking steps, he approached me with much anger that I did not know its origin.
He shouted “Why is the generator not on?”
My brain scrolled for a lie but there was no lie to utter in my situation at hand, with a stupid smile on my face, I said "Daddy let me switch it on right now"
As I was talking with him, I was sheepishly shifting the light jerry can to avoid him nothing the mistake I made.
He shouted and began to pour instantaneous blames on me
"You always lack sense, won't you turn the fuel, you know it is very plenty and it has to be on before the match"

He said “Don’t worry, I will do it myself, go and meet you mother”
I refused to go, I must turn the fuel in myself and myself alone. I was ready not to leave that place no matter what he will say.
He walked and picked the container and at this point, He turned and looked at me with so much dismay. I was soaked with sweat from head to toe in sweat under this cold weather.
I knew at this point that I was going to die. My pulse was deteriorating and I was pale instantly.

He asked in a very deep tone that left fear crawling up my spine.
He asked “Where is the fuel” and since I knew I would die.
I stupidly replied "Daddy you are holding it".
He asked again “Is that all of it”

I said “Yes”. He came towards me slowly, I did not know the inner demonic force that made me not to move but remain there.
The knock that followed was thick and devastating, then accompanied quickly by a kick that sent me flying in the air.
He held me by the collar and asked for the remaining fuel. Tears were much in my eyes and I could not explain where the money went to.
He asked again, “Where is the fuel?” and I still had no good answer to offer him.
I was devastated and stranded and there was no way out this time around.

I had met my reckoning, I began to have regrets and I wished that I had bought the fuel at least just for today.
I wished that the container was okay and I escaped as usual.
But my anger for the random man that called my Dad cannot be explained, he just successfully ruined my source of income.

So no more Bet Naija and other profits.
Dad took me inside the house and ordered me to kneel down and he began to report my act to every single person despite their age and he forced them to listen to the full story.
He sat down and began to calculate all the money he had issued me for the past seven years and swore that I would repay every single dime.

He took my allowances till he gets tired before he would continue.
And he also made an order, that whenever I am sent to purchase fuel, I am to bring it for inspection wherever he may be.
That was my punishment for a long period of time.

I turned broke and got stressed on a daily basis for just one little mistake.
Embezzlement always catches up with you.
No matter how long the time frame may seem.
Don’t say I did not warn you.
